What is a Mosaic

Mosaic is the art of creating colourful and bright images with tiles, coloured glass or any other similar materials. The very first mosaic’s that can still be seen today around the world date back at early as the 400AD period. Mosaic’s are amazing, they take forever to create and the artist needs to have a clear vision of what they are trying to create right from the word go. This is due to having to cut all the tiles up in to different sizes and different shapes. Cutting Mosaic tiles is done best by using the correct mosaic tile snippers, which can be found in your local hardware store.

When I recently travelled to Spain in Europe, I found entire buildings and homes which had been mosaic’d from top to bottom. These types of mosaic art displays are incredible to see, especially to me who can truly appreciate just how long that this would have taken the artist, or in this case, perhaps several artists.

I have included some images in this blog post to illustrate some of the amazing mosaic creations that I saw in Spain and one of mine that I have hanging from the garden wall in the backyard.

If you do have any interest in Mosaic Art, jump online and order a Mosaic starter kit, which comes with everything you need to make your first mosaic. Once you have mastered the skill you can become more and more creative to make whatever your heart desires.
